Chief Adviser to Meet Key Political Parties Today Ahead of National Election

Dhaka, August 31 — Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to hold separate meetings today with senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) to discuss the prevailing political climate and preparations for the upcoming national election.
According to Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, the meetings will take place at the Chief Adviser’s official residence, the State Guest House Jamuna.
The meeting with BNP is scheduled for 3:00 PM
Followed by Jamaat-e-Islami at 4:30 PM
And NCP at 6:00 PM
Government Reaffirms Election Timeline
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Shafiqul Alam reiterated the administration’s commitment to holding the general election in the first half of February, stating:
“We are firmly stating that the election will be held in the first half of February. There is no force that can prevent this. No conspiracy will be able to stop it.”
When asked whether the current environment is conducive to a free and fair election, he responded:
“You should collect statistics from the Police Headquarters. Compare the current law and order situation with last year’s data and see whether the situation has deteriorated. We have already instructed the police to provide regular reports. We believe the environment is satisfactory for the polls.”
Election Commission Sets Preparatory Timeline
In his national address on August 5, Professor Yunus confirmed that the next general election would be held before Ramadan, which is expected to begin on February 17 or 18, depending on the lunar calendar.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Thursday unveiled its roadmap for the 13th national parliamentary election, aiming to complete major preparations by late November and announce the official election schedule in early December.
