Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary of the interim government’s chief adviser, said that the National Assembly elections will be held by June 30, 2026.

He briefed reporters on the election at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday (December 17).

Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser, and Faiz Ahmed, Senior Assistant Press Secretary were also present in the briefing.

Shafiqul Alam said that the government is working on reforms and organizing elections. The election roadmap is very clear. What is the final date? That will depend on the reforms. The Chief Counsel has given a time. What could be a clearer roadmap? You can expect the election to be held by June 30, 2026. Now if you tell me when the nomination time? It will be given by the Election Commission.

At that time, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar said that the specific date of the election, when the nominations will be submitted is the work of the Election Commission. The government’s job is to assist the Election Commission.

Azad Majumdar expressed hope that the reform commissions would give a quick report and said that national initiatives would be tried based on the proposal of the reform commission. The Election Commission can announce the date of the election once the reform issues have been prepared by the national consensus.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AKM Nasir Uddin said preparations are being made for the national elections while talking to reporters at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the morning. He said that the commission is ready to organize elections at any time if the government wants. The chief adviser has announced a deadline. We will proceed accordingly. But we have an action plan of our own to work on.

Meanwhile, in the evening briefing, the press secretary also said that no one who carried out massacres in the July movement will be exempted. He said that the government is committed to bringing the culprits under the law.

At this time, the press secretary also informed about the various steps taken by the interim government for the development of education. He said that thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on unnecessary sectors without increasing the budget in the education sector in the last 15 years. This has affected higher education. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also said that various initiatives have been taken to improve the quality of education, including the formation of a commission.
